FREE DOWNLOAD Walking for Peace - until 11/11/2020

Dear friends and pilgrims,

We know this is a time of introspection and inner journeying for many of us, a (forced) time of isolation where, in addition to our physical well-being, we are grappling with our mental, emotional and spiritual well-being, asking questions that perhaps we haven’t dared ask in a long time.

We have left our “normal world” behind, instinctively knowing that it is forever gone, and are on a journey with many unknowns, facing many fears and questioning the very meaning of all that we hold to be true and sacred. We may not know where we end up, but we know that we will be forever changed.

We are essentially on pilgrimage! Welcome...

This is inner terrain that Alberto and I have tread, wrestling with many of the existential questions that many of us are now facing. We did it during our pilgrimages on the Camino, and later walking from Rome to Jerusalem.

We offer you, during these times of many unknowns, our lived experiences walking through those questions, and the many lessons and revelations that resulted from them.

That’s what our book “Walking for Peace, an inner journey” is all about.

We are offering the e-book editions – in English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese – for free, as our gift and contribution to these evolving times.

Visit smashwords.com, search for the book you wish to download, and upon checkout enter code DS82X. For now, it expires November 11, 2020. All popular reader formats are supported.

May these books serve your inner journeys.

All our love, and buen camino!
~Mony and Alberto

(r)Evolutions

Mony Dojeiji - on the path
Watching the news these days is not for the faint of heart. The speed and complexity of events are dizzying. We seem to be riding a wave of emotions that never quite reaches shore, in a world that seems to be fraying at the seams.

It’s impossible to tune out completely, unless you isolate yourself from the world. Although important to do, I also believe we’re here to engage with the world in a meaningful way rather than try to escape it.

The question always becomes: what can I possibly do?

When I walked to Jerusalem, I was DOING something, responding to a situation (9/11) that left me feeling vulnerable and afraid. My pilgrimage for peace would be my contribution to the forces and energies of peace.

But I certainly wasn’t a person at peace.

I was full of judgments. I had so many expectations. So many rigid ideas of right and wrong, my way or no way. (Just ask Alberto! LOL) So many fears. So much anger at what I perceived as injustices in the world and those perpetrating it.

My big dream when I arrived in Jerusalem was to spark a massive march for peace, bring together people from all faiths and religions, Israelis and Palestinians, and whoever else wanted to join us in a march demanding peace in the Holy Land. I even wanted to live there, working for the UN or some NGO dedicated to peace.

It certainly didn’t work out that way.

Although my intentions were pure – creating peace – my heart was fractured. Conflicted. Bitter. In pain.

How could such a heart inspire peace in another?

What kind of peace would this heart be creating?

I was so focused on outer action, though, that I didn’t see this right away. The journey and its myriad experiences revealed these – and many more – truths to me, along with what was perhaps the most difficult to accept:

There is nothing out there.

It is ALL inside of you, revealing itself to you so that you may acknowledge it, accept it and liberate it.

The priest that I judged and criticized for turning us away was the loving opportunity to heal the fears, expectations and judgments within me.

The woman who brought me to tears because I couldn’t live up to her expectations of how a good pilgrim should behave was the loving opportunity to heal the wounded child within me.

The few people who mocked or dismissed my pilgrimage were the loving opportunity to stand confidently in my truth and to speak it with open heart, even as it was still forming within me.

The days and nights of anxiety and uncertainty when we didn’t know if we would have a roof over our heads were the loving opportunity to have faith in what we couldn’t see, and to know that a Great Love is always at work.

This was the true journey. The transformation that was taking place. So that Peace and Love would find a home within me. And inspire my action in the world.

THAT is the inner (r)evolution.

And the source of all outer (r)evolutions.

Gandhi. Martin Luther King. Marianne Williamson. They all understood this when they called for a revolution of Love.

And every revolution needs its revolutionaries:

Revolutionaries of Love,

Dissolving the bitterness and barriers within, so that they may be dissolved without.

When our inner walls crumble, the outer walls cannot help but follow suit.

This is Our Story

Each and every one of us, in certain moments of our lives, feels a call.

A call to change, to follow a dream or ideal; at times, even a call towards the unknown, driven by an emptiness that needs to be filled.

Like so many people, we were stuck in our jobs, doing things that paid our bills but didn’t feed our souls.

The golden handcuffs kept us like slaves, and we didn't even know we were enslaved.

We could only dream of being free, and doing what we truly loved.

But what if we took that step, and became explorers of this earth and saw it as a place of wonder, magic and infinite possibility?

And that the whole Universe had our back?

And that we are not merely the reflection staring back at us in the mirror,

but beings of wonder, magic and infinite possibility,

initiates on a journey of the Soul, here to experience, to explore, to awaken, to appreciate, to become whole.

This is our story.

Walking for Peace, an inner journey.

Remembering 9/11

Photo: Andrew Kelly, Reuters

Most of us can recall where we were or what we were doing on this fateful day.
I was in Lebanon, fresh off the Camino, visiting my family after my grandmother’s unexpected passing. I had just come back from a girls’ shopping spree in Beirut and was stepping into the house when my phone rang. My best friend was crying into the phone, trying to explain these attacks in New York, and how I needed to get back to Canada right away because they were closing airports and talking of bombing southern Lebanon.
I went numb and, as I sat watching the news reports, only felt the horror of that moment.
But that day galvanized me, and placed me firmly on the path of action:
I would walk to Jerusalem for peace, and dedicate my every step to peace. Peace within me. Peace in Jerusalem, and beyond.
I reflect on this day often, on how easy it would have been to fall deeper into fear and shut myself off from the world. I saw that same struggle on the faces of so many people.
But I also saw so much grace and dignity, so much love and compassion, so many people refusing to bow to fear and to carry on, choosing to light the way rather than close off into the darkness. If there was to be a gift from this day, that would be it for me.
May all be blessed on this – and every – day.

Easter and the Inner Mysteries

Mony at the "Cross", found on a path near my home
To our Christian friends around the world, today (Good Friday) marks perhaps the most sacred time of the year.

My thinking about this time of crucifixion and resurrection changed radically when I began to read the more mystical interpretations of the life of the Great Master known as Jesus.

The teachings of White Eagle resonated especially deeply with me. Those who read our book know that he "appeared" to Alberto and I at the end of our Rome-to-Jerusalem pilgrimage, to give meaning to the true inner journey we were walking:

We are eternal beings of Light, on a journey of unfolding ever more Light;

Our sole/soul journey is to BE ONE with that Light (which is God-Love), so that we may pour forth its plenitude into the world.

Jesus was the perfected instrument for this Great Light; and he blessed the world not only with his teachings, but with his presence and example of BEING this Light - of BEING Love - in every moment; and in so doing, demonstrated the ultimate power of this Light, which is to overcome "death".

This is truly a very sacred time, a reminder that though we may suffer (or feel crucified), within that too is the seed for re-birth and ever-greater manifestation of the Light.

I share with you this quote from the teachings of White Eagle, which I especially love at this time. The pictures is of me at the "cross" that I encountered during my walk this Easter week.

Blessings to all, 🙏💖
~Mony

* * *
From White Eagle:

'We wish we could express in earthly words more of the inner significance of the life of the master Jesus.

So little is really understood of the inner meaning and the power of that incarnation of the Great White Light - we are speaking not just of Jesus the Nazarene, but the LIGHT which flooded his being and used his physical form.

This is the eternal Light in which you will learn to live in full consciousness; and Easter is the demonstration to all people of the inability of people to destroy God's life.

However much they try to destroy life, it just rises again like the phoenix.

There is no death, and life cannot be destroyed.

This is a most important truth for everyone to absorb into their consciousness.

We ask you to meditate on this; and as you meditate, to remember how you are linked on that higher level of consciousness with the eternal and infinite Light, the Son of God, the Sun."

Do you have to Suffer to be a Pilgrim?

One of the more fascinating conversations that come up during pilgrim gatherings is whether or not suffering is an integral part of #pilgrimage.

In this video, I share some reflections on suffering and how it differs from struggling.

You can also listen to the PODCAST of this (and all other episodes) HERE.

I hope you enjoy it. Please share freely, and give it a Like, if you so feel called.

Buen Camino!

Walking for Peace: featured on the DAILY GOOD platform!

Mony and Alberto in Venice, Italy
"I needed ten years to properly digest all that occurred during those thirteen months of walking. Although I was declaring over and again that peace begins within, only with time would I fully comprehend the power and profundity of those words.

I would come to understand that we are all on a journey of self-discovery and self-mastery. There are many who walk this path consciously, others still not.

My Walk for Peace began as an active response to a situation that I saw (9/11); but the true path I was walking in reality had little to do with peace in Jerusalem.

It was a path of initiation, a journey into the inner realms, one whose intention was to heal the wounds and divisions that I hosted there, so that the Light that is our essence may fully manifest and declare its presence in its rightful home: the heart.

The Jerusalem I was walking towards was always within me; a state of grace, perfection and peace that I know one day will be reflected in the Jerusalem that I see in my outer world."

Small Circle, Big Circle

While in Spain, Alberto (my husband) surprised me with this beautiful necklace for my birthday. I loved it, and was immediately drawn to those circles.

Curiously, our daughter Sylvana had bought a necklace for herself a few days earlier with the exact same design, which Alberto had not seen.

My spider sense was tingling! :-D…Feeling that, hidden somewhere in those symbols, was a message for my continuing soul journey.

A few days ago, Alberto and I were having another philosophical conversation about yet another aspect of the spiritual quest. I will confess (and my apologies to my Law of Attraction friends) that I’ve always had a resistance to anything that requires visualizing, repeating affirmations, or anything that keeps the energy in the head rather than in the heart (which I believe to be the centre of all creation and what needs to unfold first, before meaningful creation-manifestation can happen).

In a moment, I finally understood what those circles were telling me.

Of course it’s wonderful – and good – that we visualize the life that we want, or the things we wish to have. This gift of creation is a powerful one, given by a loving Creator/God. To deny it is to deny our very existence as children of that loving Creator.

But this power (small circle) exists inside a bigger context, and a bigger journey.

The bigger context is that you and I are grand souls, eternal beings of light who have come to this Earth at this moment in time to explore, to play and to use the tools of creation not merely to satisfy our material desires (again, nothing wrong with that!), but to bring our soul’s unique experiences and interpretations of the Divine (which I define as Love) into this life. That’s the big circle.

We, as grand souls on a journey of exploration, come here to add our energies of love to the love that already exists. Our unique light adds to the expanding light. Our highest conceptions (our biggest dreams, impossible ideas, crazy innovations, etc.) add to the highest consciousness. THAT’S our soul’s true journey.

The Universe evolves because of our soul’s contributions. It doesn’t need us. No one needs us. No one needs to be saved by us. But I do believe our lives matter. They are sacred, the vessels through which Love plays. And I do believe that Love is the true nature of each and every one of us, no matter that some may have forgotten it. And our Light matters, for it is our gift back to our Creator.

When I decided to walk the Way of the Soul to Jerusalem, my mind believed that it was walking for peace in Jerusalem and beyond; and on one level, it was.

But now, I understand that it was my soul that led me there, tracing a path it had marked long ago, drawing unto itself the experiences it knew it would need to awaken, so that it may bring its wisdom to the world.

Small circle.

Big circle.

And as we grow on our journey, our small circle expands to become that big circle, itself the small circle inside an even larger circle, rippling ever outwards towards infinity.

Towards Oneness.

And so it is.

VIDEO and AUDIO - The Hidden Camino, episode on Pilgrim Story Hour

During my first pilgrimage in Spain, I met pilgrims who spoke about a "hidden camino", and who were playing an esoteric game called "el juego de la oca" (the game of the goose).

I thought it strange, since this is a child's board game similar to snakes and ladders, and dismissed it.

Years later, I would learn it to be a metaphor for the camino, where the images and symbols point to an inner journey that the pilgrim is walking at the same time as they are walking an outer journey.

In this episode, I share with you the meaning of some of the images and symbols.

You can also listen to the audio podcast on iTunes.

Instagram -- Daily Pics and Stories of Rome-to-Jerusalem Pilgrimage

Our 5000-km walk for peace fascinates people. The most popular questions we are asked relate to our route: where we walked, how many kilometres a day, where we slept, what we ate, who we met.

In this photo series on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/walkingforpeace/), I share with you those details, day by day.

There were many days where we didn’t take photos. The camera still needed film, so every shot was precious!

Where is there is no photo, I will use stock images or an illustration by Alberto.

I hope you’ll join us on this journey!

VIDEO and AUDIO - Pilgrim Story Hour, Peek into the Past

While walking in Croatia, I was interviewed by a reporter in English for the evening news.

I was alone then, having separated from Alberto only a week earlier. I was recovering from a severe infection, staying with a priest and community that took me in without question. To this day, I am in awe of, and grateful for, the kindness they showed me.

This is rare footage from my time as a pilgrim, and re-enforces that this was indeed, for me, a journey of inner exploration... and that people are good!

My intro and interview are only 6 minutes. The rest is video of me packing my backpack and walking on the open road.

Enjoy and buen camino,
~Mony

Pilgrim Story Hour w/Mony Dojeiji - Touched by an Angel

"Touched by an Angel" is the story I share with you on this episode of Pilgrim Story Hour.

More than once during our Rome-to-Jerusalem walk, Alberto would say that we were angels, because we were bringing a touch of light and love wherever we walked.

His definition made me uncomfortable because it sounded so arrogant. After all, I thought, who are we, in our imperfection, to consider ourselves in such a light? ...Until an experience in Italy made me truly reflect on what it means to be an angel in the world.

VIDEO and PODCAST Pilgrim Story Hour - Walking on Faith

During our Rome-to-Jerusalem pilgrimage, we were indeed walking on faith. Every night, we needed to find shelter. Every night, we needed to trust that the person opening the door would receive us.

Most times, they did and we had a roof over our heads. But one night, they didn't.

In this episode, I share the story of when the doors were closed to us, several times in that one night, and how walking on faith brought us to a place that can only be described as miraculous.

Enjoy, and Happy Holidays to all!

Radio Interview with The Drew Marshall Show

Over the years, Alberto and I have done many radio interviews and enjoyed them all; but rarely have we laughed as much as we did with Drew on his The Drew Marshall Show...

Drew was preparing to go on the Camino himself, with a special vow of walking in silence. We shared our stories, and spoke about love - in fact, it was his first question, wanting the details of our love story! -  the heart of pilgrimage, why we walked for peace, and so much more.

It was a touching and deep interview, with many moments of laughter.

Alberto has added pictures from our journey for your viewing pleasure.

Thanks again, Drew!

Walking alone is possibly one of the greatest fears pilgrims have on their journeys.

But choosing to walk alone, even if it’s only for a short while, can offer opportunities for personal growth that walking with others simply can’t.
