As we approach the birthday of one of the great modern prophets of peace, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I am especially drawn to this phrase:
"Let no man pull you low enough to hate him."
Because in the moment they do, YOU have lost your power:
Your power to choose what to think.
Your power to choose what to believe.
Your power to choose how to act.
Your power to stand in the grace of who you are.
Your power to choose love, especially for those who demonstrate the lack of it.
Your power to choose understanding, even while others act from ignorance.
Your power to choose unity, even while the words of others create separation.
Your power to choose to listen with your heart, to hear the unspoken words and glimpse the wounds desperate to heal.
No one can control how you feel, what you think, and how you respond. That is the ultimate power you, and we, all possess.
My choice is clear. Despite all the outer noise and distractions, now more than ever, I stand for love.
And I especially weigh it down like an anchor in the hearts of those – my brothers and sisters on this journey – who cannot yet do it for themselves, and who have temporarily forgotten who they are.
May peace prevail in the hearts of all. 🙏💞
