My Mony-festo!

I’ve spent the last few weeks reading my diaries, and reflecting on how to remain loyal to my spiritual beliefs and authentic voice, in the face of so many outer distractions and noise.

One of the first things I noticed is just how cautious I was in fully integrating those beliefs into my “professional” life. It’s as if there’s an invisible line, sometimes a concrete wall, between being “spiritual” and being “professional”, and you have to choose where you stand.

I saw how I was continually twisting myself into knots trying to find the words that would appeal to business people and not isolate them with my talk of the Spirit, and similarly appeal to “spiritual” people without sounding too professional or being ‘Marketing Mony’.

How exhausting!

I believe that there is a universal spirituality grounded in love, compassion, and understanding that most definitely has a place at the table of any conversation, be it business, politics, or any other “professional” realm; because if we can’t bring our highest values and highest selves into the conversations, then what kinds of decisions and choices are we making, for ourselves and others?

So, I am tearing that artificial barrier down, and declaring that my work is the outward expression of all that I believe.

I believe in the power of individuals to transform their lives, in words that inspire us to our higher nature, in businesses serving the social good, in leadership that is enlightened, in politics that are inclusive… and that is what I will dedicate my talents and energies to serving.

We are all on this great journey of exploration, my friends, and I look forward to sharing its many adventures and awakenings with you. <3

“I will believe the truth about myself no matter how beautiful it is"

"I believe in my power
to transform indifference into love.

I believe I have an amazing gift
to keep hope alive in the face of despair.

I believe I have the remarkable skill
of deleting bitterness from my life.

I believe in my budding potential
to live with a nonviolent heart.

I believe in my passion to speak the truth
even when it isn’t popular.

I believe I have the strength of will
to be peace in a world of violence.

I believe in my miraculous capacity
for unconditional love.

I will believe the truth about myself
no matter how beautiful it is.”

"Let no man pull you low enough to hate him."~MLK

If there were to be a manifesto for this moment in time, it would be captured in these words:

Let no person pull you low enough to hate them.

Because in the moment that they do, then YOU have lost your power:

Your power to choose what to think.

Your power to choose what to believe.

Your power to choose how to act.

Your power to stand in the grace of who you are.

Your power to choose love, especially for those who demonstrate the lack of it.

Your power to choose understanding, even while others act from ignorance.

Your power to choose unity, even while the words of others create separation.

Your power to choose to listen with your heart, to hear the unspoken words and glimpse the wounds
desperate to heal.

No one can control how you feel, what you think, and how you respond. That is the ultimate power you, and we, all possess.

My choice is clear. Despite all the outer noise and distractions, now more than ever, I stand for love.

And I especially weigh it down like an anchor in the hearts of those – my brothers and sisters on this journey – who cannot yet do it for themselves, and who have temporarily forgotten who they are.

One pilgrim step at a time. <3

"What is going wrong in the world?" my friend asked

There are so many ways to answer this, and on so many levels, but fundamentally, to me, it’s this…

The world is going through a magnificent transition, so many people are waking up to the lives they wish to live and how they choose to BE in this world. And with every change, personal or collective, the hidden needs to come out. Our hidden biases, prejudices, judgments… all of it. And it’s now staring us in the face.

And we stand at a crossroads, trying to choose how to BE and ACT in light of all that we see.

I can tell you for sure that the more that we label and judge individuals as “terrorists”, “radicals”, “fanatics”… the more we keep them in our collective consciousness. The more attention we pay to those artificial labels, the more of them we see. The more that we believe that “these people” are incapable of change or transformation, the more we keep them where they are, and we look for any action to support what we believe.

We do this individually, and we do it collectively.

But we can change those labels, because what’s a label? Nothing more than an idea, a thought… And an idea can always change.

So, consider that “terrorist”… what if I choose to see him as nothing more than a fellow human being, a brother, who has chosen terribly, whose life journey has led him to such desperation and hopelessness that the only solution he saw was this terrible act?

Would that influence what I say and how I act? I believe it would…

And what if I believe that there is nothing random in this Universe? What if I believe this person is a spiritual being having a physical experience, as I am, as you are, as I believe we all are? How do I know how his actions affect his soul journey, the highest within him? Who am I to judge that? How do I know the sacred agreements involved with others? How do I know what their soul journeys are all about? What they have agreed to do? I have no idea… but again, this is all based on my belief that that nothing is random in this Universe.

I’ll go even further and say there is only Love in this Universe.

If I didn’t believe this, I couldn’t possibly make sense of this world… but that’s my paradigm.

My first act is to stop the judging and the labeling. I work on changing the narrative in my mind about who this “other” is. I envision the light and awakening arising in him, in the same way that it is in me. I see him changing in every moment, in every moment becoming more and more filled with wisdom, with light…and acting in consequence.

I see that for every person. And I stubbornly hold on to that, no matter what others choose to say or do. That is my work, what I do on the inner planes.

There’s also a lot RIGHT with this world. There are so many people working from a consciousness of love, bringing that into the world, building the world we want to live in. It is happening now, and it is gaining momentum. That’s why the hidden needs to come out. So that we can see it, and heal it, collectively and individually. We’re ready for it.

That’s how I see it anyways… and believe me, this is the summarized version! lol

Hugs, my friend. Just keep on keeping on!

Our presence is often enough...

She walked into the bookstore just as I had finished setting up for the book signing. From the conversation that was easily overheard by everyone in this tiny community bookstore, it was clear that she was a student from China who was temporarily studying in Ottawa. What stood out about her, however, was the tension that she exuded; from her high-pitched, slightly-nervous voice, to her awkward gestures, rapid-fire questions and uncertain glances, this lovely, young woman was harbouring some deep pain.

I'm not even sure how I got pulled into the conversation she was having with the salesclerk, but before long, she was revealing her frustrations to me, her unhappiness with her studies, her anger at her father for not allowing her to choose the life she wanted to live, and so much more.... I barely had time to respond, and even when I could offer a comment, she continued to speak, in what was clearly a torrent of words and emotions that had too long been contained.

A Cosmic Embrace (Source: www.eso.org)
So, I stood in the middle of the store, and listened, as she unburdened her soul. I breathed deeply, anchoring myself in my heart, allowing that energy to fill the space between us. And as the flow of words eased and her manner relaxed, her tears began to flow. I reached over and embraced her, saying very little, only reassuring her that she would find her way, but keeping the energy flowing. When she finally let go, she seemed in a daze, but infinitely more at ease. She asked me to recommend some self-help books, which I did, encouraging her to follow her instincts in choosing the ones that most spoke to her.

I didn't sell a single book that day, but in speaking with the salesclerk after, we both couldn't help but reflect that the true purpose of my being there that day had nothing to do with signing books; that at times we are brought to places to fulfill a role that goes beyond our preconceived plans, and to be, for that moment in time, the instrument though which the Universe brings forth the healing and love that will serve another in their journey.

All we need to do is show up, and open our hearts.

The Universe will take care of the rest.

Our presence is enough.
